The Medallion Pattern Dressing Gown

We love coming up with new designs made from rare fabrics. In this post we will tell you a bit about the newest addition to our collection, available in two timelessly elegant shades of burgundy and navy blue.

These two medallion pattern robes are the newest addition to our collection. We feel incredibly lucky to have found the fabrics, two matching versions in burgundy and navy with gold embroidery. Like most our fabrics, these are “deadstock”, which means it’s no longer being made and we managed to find the last quantities of it. And what better use for this fabric than turning it into a luxurious, opulent dressing gown?

The motif is an intricate medallion design with intertwined floral shapes, made in a printed and woven-in technique. It’s quite durable and has a nice weight to it, without being too heavy. A great medium warm quality for year-round comfort. We paired the fabrics with matching cotton velvet for lapels, cuffs, pockets. The lining is a soft silk-like satin in a rich gold shade.

What is a medallion pattern?

Medallion patterns are decorative motifs commonly used in fabrics, particularly in textiles such as upholstery, curtains, and rugs. These patterns feature a central medallion design surrounded by various symmetrical or asymmetrical elements, creating a visually appealing composition. Medallions can be found in a wide range of styles, from traditional and ornate to modern and abstract, allowing for versatile and creative designs.

Historically, medallion patterns were prevalent in various cultures, including Persian, Turkish, and Indian textiles. They often drew inspiration from architectural elements, such as ceiling rosettes and dome decorations, and incorporated intricate geometric and floral motifs. These patterns were typically handcrafted using techniques like embroidery, weaving, or block printing, resulting in exquisite and highly detailed designs.

In modern fabric production, medallion patterns are often created using digital printing methods, allowing for more complex and precise designs. The motifs can be composed of various elements, such as floral motifs, geometric shapes, vines, scrolls, or animal figures. The central medallion is usually the focal point of the pattern, while the surrounding elements enhance the overall balance and harmony.
