Before central heating, dressing gowns have been the go-to way to stay warm in the 19th century. But even today, you might find yourself feeling cold at home. As it has been the case in the past, a warm and comfortable dressing gown is the best way to stay warm at home and cozy up on the couch – donning a smoker hat and cigar.
Difference between wool and velvet
Often customers ask us: What is the difference between wool and velvet? Which one is the warmest? The key difference are the different contents and weaving techniques.
Our cotton velvet is a thick and heavy fabric and has a very high pile count (the threads that stick out on top), meaning it’s extremely soft and the colors are very deep. Unlike other common types of velvet and similar fabrics, like velour or cotton terry, cotton velvet has an unmistakably luxurious quality to it and very deep color shade. So with velvet, you get warmth, a deep rich color and a one-of-a-kind soft texture.
Wool flannel is another warm and heavy fabric, offered in our store in a flannel weaving technique. It’s less soft than velvet and has a brushed surface, which is rather smooth but still has a unique woolen roughness to it. The colors are equally stunning as velvet, but not as dark.
As you can see, it all comes down to what type of texture you prefer: a very soft one, or somewhat more rough. Our experts will gladly assist you in helping you pick the right robe. Just contact us or send us a chat message.
All our designs are fully made in our own studio in Hamburg, Germany, meaning it’s made completely by ourselves from start to finish, for each individual order. Read more about our craftsmanship and watch the making of video here.
