At Baturina Homewear, you’ll find a wide range of women’s robes in many different colors and fabrics. Each design is made in our studio in Germany. With our variety of robes, you can be sure to find a style that suits you perfectly. In our robes you’ll not only feel comfortable, but confident and stylish as well. A dressing gown is traditionally worn indoors, in the comfort of the home. It’s fashioned in cotton, silk, linen and wool – unlike a bathrobe, it’s not made from water absorbing fabrics.

Tradition and history

The dressing gown as we know it today originated from the banyan robe – a loose T-shaped gown, imported from Persia to Europe in the 18th century. Over time the original cut was adapted into a coat-like shape with collar and belt. The modern-day dressing gown combines the loose fit with a shawl collar and waist-tie. With the absence of central heating in the 19th century, the fashionable gentleman would wear his dressing gown to stay warm, in the study room and to welcome guests.
