Our Story: A Small Manufacture from Hamburg, Germany.

“The shape of the dressing gown itself was very simple and always the same, however it was the details and materials used that made all the difference. It was at that moment, inspiration was born.”

At first, let’s introduce ourselves. Baturina Homewear is a family business from Hamburg, a major port city in northern Germany. We operate an online store where you’ll find the finest robes, pajamas and accessories. Our core values as a business are sustainability, craftsmanship and ethical manufacturing. Often in fashion it is quite ambiguous where something was made, and under what conditions, but we are proud to have a fully transparent production. Our customers can be fully confident about the garment’s origins.

Let’s take a look at our work process behind the scenes. All products are made from start to finish by skilled experts in our own studio in Hamburg, Germany. Our fundamental approach is the individual manufacturing process, tailored to the customer’s wishes. For this reason, each garment is individually made to order, based on your individual preferences. As a result, you’ll find many size and customization options in our store.

From a small side project to fully grown store

Baturina Homewear, definitely has an interesting story, and it all started around 2010, in the city of Hamburg. Long before Christoph Waltz wore their elegant, pastel blue floral cotton dressing gown, as part of a global advertising campaign for Allianz. Before this, it was a small project for Natalia Tishchenko (née Baturina.) Natalia, as a very talented and professional seamstress, had always been doing various commissions, from outerwear to wedding dresses as a small home business. Around this time, she had planned to gift a nice-looking housecoat to her grandmother, however she couldn’t find anything suitable in stores, other than terrycloth ones on the lower quality side. After browsing the internet and being unable to find anything, she happened to stumble across some very worn sewing patterns which had old fashioned dressing gowns, with quilting, frogging, and tassels. The shape of the dressing gown itself was very simple and always the same, however it was the details and materials used that made all the difference. It was at that moment, inspiration was born. Sustainability and craftsmanship

Our designs feature intricate details and complex fabric combinations, from different piping, to quilting, lining and tassels. A custom tailored fit and embroidered chest pocket monogram add a truly personal touch to your order. With our passion for the craft, we take no shortcuts when it comes to details. Wearing our dressing gowns is like wearing a piece of art, with precise stitches, piped details and hand-stitched quilting. It’s more than just a garment, it’s a feeling of luxury and display of craftsmanship.

“Often in fashion it is quite ambiguous where something was made, and under what conditions, but we are proud to have a fully transparent production. Our customers can be fully confident about the garment’s origins.”

The majority of our fabrics are genuine leftover materials (so-called “deadstock”). We use them to create small editions, which is part of our sustainability practice. Deadstock fabrics are leftovers or discontinued stock from textile factories. As such, this fabric stock cannot be used in the industry anymore, even though it’s still usable. We source this type of fabric stock and repurpose it in our collections. As a result, you will find many unique and rare fabrics across all our designs and can be sure to own a one-of-a-kind piece. By using deadstock, we can repurpose already existing fabric and offer a wide range of unique patterns and colors.

Combining made-to-order production and deadstock materials helps us to make a positive impact on the environment. In addition, we repurpose fabric leftovers for sampling and small accessories such as smoking caps, eye masks, throw pillows.
